A question always being come up with by many foreign friends is that whether Shanghai a province or not. I should make it clearly that Shanghai is a municipality directly under the Central Government, not a province like Jiangsu and Zhejiang. It is featured with Chinese unique characteristics.

Shanghai is an international metropolis, consisting of eighteen districts and one county, ie. Huangpu district, Luwan district, Yangpu district, Changning district, Jing'an district, Putuo district, Zhabei district, Hongkou district, Pudong New Area, Baoshan district, Jiading district, Minghang district, Jinshan district, Songjiang district, Qingpu district, Fengxian district, Nanhui district, Xuhui district and Chongming County.

It is not only the economic and financial center of China, but also the administrative and cultural center of the country, attracting those cultural fans to come and experience its unique Chinese-styled cultures and customs featured with both western and eastern charms.

The city is in possession of a great number of advanced transportation facilities such as airports, railways, subways, magnetically levitated trains, highways, ports etc. Thus people both home and abroad can benefit a lot from these convenient facilities.

Best Visiting Time

Shanghai has subtropical monsoon climate, featuring warm spring, heating summer, cool fall and cold, damp winter. July and August are too hot for traveling while January and Feburary are too cold, and the dampness can make things even worse. Generally speaking, March to May are the most favorable for travelers. The raining seasons in Shanghai is from the middle of June to August, so umbrellas are essential during the period.
