Shanghai has subtropical monsoon climate, featuring warm spring, heating summer, cool fall and cold, damp winter. July and August are too hot for traveling while January and Feburary are too cold, and the dampness can make things even worse. Generally speaking, March to May are the most favorable for travelers. The raining seasons in Shanghai is from the middle of June to August, so umbrellas are essential during the period.
